Dementia is a brain disorder (damage to the brain cells) that causes loss of memory and makes it hard for people to care for themselves. Alzheimer's and dementia are often used interchangeably, but there is a difference. Alzheimer's disease causes brain death and Dementia is the result of that brain death affecting two functions of the brain. Mild, moderate and severe are the 3 stages of dementia. Common signs are forgetfulness, confusion poor judgement and loss of ability to communicate. These are just a few symptoms to look for.Â
What can be done? Early diagnosis and early planning. There is no cure or effective treatment to stop or slow down the progression of dementia. May your journey be filled with joy and inspiration.
Tip:
You don't have to handle this disease alone. Caregivers who get support from peers and coaches are more encouraged on the job.
